There are different ways to watch movies and shows in your Google library on your TV.

Watch your movies & shows on a smart TV

Watch videos on Android TV

  1. On your Android TV, from theHome screen, scrollto the "Apps" row.
  2. Select Google Play Movies & TV app Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (1).
  3. Search for movies and shows you want to watch.
  4. Select a movie or show.

Tips:

  • To search by voice: Scroll to the top of the screen and select Microphone Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (2).
  • To type your search: At the top of the screen, scroll right and select Input Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (3).
  1. On your Android TV device, make sure you’re signed in to the right account.
  2. Go to the Shop tab.
  3. In the first row with “Your Library,” find your purchased content.
    • If you have more than 10 titles in your library, under “Your Library,” select View all.

Sign in to a different account on Android TV

To sign in to a different Google Play Movies & TV account on Android TV, you must remove the account that’s currently on the device. After you remove the account, you must go through the setup process again. For more information, go to the Android TV Help Center.

You can also cast to your Android TV from another Google Account with your phone or tablet. For more information, go to the Chromecast Help Center.

If you use 2-Step Verification on an account, you need to create an app password before you add an account.

Watch videos on Apple TV

When you connect your Apple TV and your Apple mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network, you can use AirPlay to stream video to your TV.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google TV app Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (4).
  2. Select a video to watch.
  3. Next to the video’s playback controls, select AirPlay Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (5).
  4. Select your Apple TV.

Tip: Apple TV 3rd generation or higher supports AirPlay. You can identify your Apple TV model here.

Watch videos with Chromecast

You can get movies and shows from Google directly on your TV when your Chromecast has Google TV. Learn how to buy or rent content on Google TV.

For other Chromecast devices, you can stream video to your TV.

Watch videos on other smart TVs

  1. On your smart TV, open the YouTube app Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (6).
  2. Sign in with your Google Account.
  3. On the Library tab, select Purchases.

Watch videos using an HDMI cable

To connect your device to your TV, you need:

  • An HDTV that has available HDMI ports.
  • An HDMI cable or adapter that allows you to connect your device to your TV.

After you connect your device and your TV, your device's screen and audio should play through your TV. If your video plays without sound, you may need to change the audio source through your TV settings.

If you have problems while you use an HDMI cable to watch videos on your TV, try these steps:

  • Disconnect both ends of your HDMI cable. Then, securely reconnect them to your device and TV.
  • Check that the HDMI cable is connected to the correct HDMI port on your TV.
  • Watch the video in a web player. Mirroring videos from the app isn't supported.
  • Check that your TV is set to the correct HDMI source.
  • Restart your device.

Fix problems with a movie or show on your TV

Important: If you have issues with a movie or show on a Google TV device, follow these troubleshooting steps.

Quit & reopen the app

  1. On your remote, press the home button.
  2. Reopen Google Play Movies & TV Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (7).
  3. Replay your movie or show.

Sign out of the app & sign back in

  1. Open Google Play Movies & TV Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (8).
  2. Select Settings Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (9) Sign out.
  3. Go back to Settings and select Sign in.
    • You may need to enter a code.
  4. Replay your movie or show.

Delete & reinstall the app

  1. Go to My Channels.
  2. Highlight Google Play Movies & TV.
  3. On your remote, press the star button Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (10) Remove.
  4. Reinstall the app from the Channel Store.
  5. Replay your movie or show.

Use a wired internet connection

  1. Use an ethernet cable to connect your device to the internet.
  2. Change your connection settings to use a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi.
  3. Replay your movie or show.

Check your internet connection

  1. Open Google Play Movies & TV Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (11).
  2. Select Verify your network settings Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (12) Wi-Fi.
    • If you don't find "Verify your network settings" in the app: On your device, go to Settings. Select Network Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (13) Wi-Fi.
  3. Select a network and follow the on-screen instructions to connect.
  4. Return to the app and replay your movie or show.

Make sure your system is up to date

  1. On your device, go to Settings.
  2. Select About Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (14) System update Watch & manage videos in your library on your TV (15) Check now.
  3. If an update is available, install it.
  4. Replay your movie or show.
